New Student Information

Welcome to the Department of Public Policy's Master of Public Administration Program.  We are excited to have you as a new student in our program!  This page contains important information for you and is meant to assist you in navigating the University systems. As always, though, please let us know if you have any questions. We are happy to assist you! The main office phone number is (860) 570-9343.

UConn Student ID card. ID photos are taken at the Students Activity office located in the Undergraduate Building in Room 301B.  You will need to bring some form of picture ID such as your drivers’ license or passport to have your photo taken and processed. There is no charge to get your ID card. Your ID will be ready in approximately one week and can be picked up in the DPP Office. Please click here for the Fall 2009 Photo ID schedule.

Orientation. The Department holds an orientation for new students every year. This is a great way for you to meet faculty members and other students, as well as receive important information about the MPA program. It is highly recommended that you attend. Orientation is being held on August 27, 2009 from 3:30pm-8pm. Dinner will be provided.

Registering for classes. To register, log onto PeopleSoft and enter your User ID and password. Select self-service then student center. All students must be enrolled by the 10th day of the semester. For a list of courses being offered for the Fall 2009 semester click here.

*Most Fall 2009 entering full-time students will take the following core courses: PP 5376 Applied Quantitative Methods, PP 5364 Public Finance and Budgeting, PP 5375 Analytic Tools for Public Problems, and PP 5397 Introduction to Public Policy.

Campus Parking. Student parking lots are located opposite the campus on Trout Brook Drive. Students must park in designated student parking areas; a valid student parking decal must be displayed on the vehicle's windshield. HuskyCT. This is the learning management software that may be used in some of the courses here. You will be able to access information about your courses and course materials. To be redirected to the HuskyCT homepage, please click here.

MPA Handbook. The Department has prepared a handbook for new students. You will receive this at the new student orientation. The handbook is designated as a guide and resource. It contains important information about the curriculum. An electronic copy is also available here.

GAPPS. Our Department has its own student organization: the Graduate Association of Public Policy Students. Click here to check out their webpage, see what they have got planned, and how you can get invovled.

Advising. Each incoming MPA student is assigned a major faculty advisor. Faculty advisors provide program advisement as needed. The Administrative Program Director (Valerie Rogers) is also available to to assist students. Please click here for more information.

UConn Policies. A University policy is an official statement expressing the position of the Univeristy on an issue of institution-wide importance. Library Resources. There are resources available for students in the Trecker Library (2nd Floor of the Library Building) and online. More information about the Library can be accessed here.
