Jason Jakubowski, MPA 2001
Director of Business Development, Charter Oak State College

Jason Jakubowski has spent his entire professional career working in both state and local government. From a small Town Manager’s Office to the Treasurer of a large Connecticut city, Jason understands the administrator’s role in a political environment. To support this career Jason earned his Master of Public Administration from the University of Connecticut in 2001.
Currently Jason is the Director of Business Development at Charter Oak State College, where he specializes in the creation of public-private partnerships. As Jason explains, “Since we are a public online college, many private companies send their employees to us in order to complete degrees they may have started elsewhere years ago.” In addition Jason teaches two courses: "State & Local Government" and "Introduction to Public Administration." Jason has taught at the collegiate level for more than five years.
Jason views Charter Oak State College as a hidden treasure in Connecticut. He explained, “I love introducing Charter Oak to a business owner, and then having that owner tell me a few months later how they wish they knew about us years ago. People have called us Connecticut's best kept secret, and it is my job to get that secret out.”
With such an eclectic list of duties stemming from these responsibilities Jason finds that he uses many different skills from his MPA. “There isn't a day when I don't use at least one tool I picked up during my days in the MPA program. As a member of the President's Cabinet, I'm always looking at cost-benefit analyses and organizational structure in order to find better ways for us to carry out our mission. Not to mention ethics - that is a big part of working for the state.”
Jason is a Past President of the American Society of Public Administrators (CT Chapter), a two-time winner of the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, and a member of the Pi Alpha Alpha honor society for public administrators. Prior to teaching, Jason was elected twice to the City Council in his hometown.
